Project Overview

The goal of DownTheMemory is simple: make it effortless for families to back up and relive memories. Users upload photos, videos, and audio; auto-generate thumbnails and previews; organize albums and timelines; and share selectively with family—without getting lost in complex controls.

The platform is built with a responsive, remote-friendly UI that works great on phones, laptops, and large TV screens, so slideshows and home videos feel cinematic on the couch too.

Development Challenges

Building a seamless experience for large videos required resilient uploads, background processing, and careful storage/streaming choices. We designed a queue-based pipeline to generate thumbnails and streamable renditions while keeping the UI responsive and progress feedback clear.

The TV-friendly experience needed simplified navigation, larger hit-targets, and contrast-aware themes so slideshows and playback are enjoyable from across the room.
