Project Overview

Flash Light is a versatile torch app designed for everyday utility and live event excitement. It features a super-bright hardware torch, adjustable blinking (1–5 speeds), and an SOS mode for emergencies. For entertainment, users can switch to a screen-based disco light with auto color cycles or pick any custom color.

A headline feature is the IPL Sync mode: thousands of fans can light their phones in coordinated team colors using time-synchronized patterns (TOTP-inspired) — no constant internet streaming required. A floating widget provides one-tap access, and battery alerts ensure you’re never left in the dark.

Development Challenges

We engineered a reliable, time-synchronized light choreography for the IPL feature without depending on continuous network calls — using time-based schedules with drift tolerance to keep large crowds in sync. We also handled device fragmentation by supporting CameraManager/Camera2 torch control with safe fallbacks to screen light where hardware flash isn’t available.

Finally, we optimized battery and performance: foreground usage only when necessary, avoiding unnecessary wake-locks, and keeping animations smooth even on low-end devices. Runtime permissions and overlay flows were tuned for a clean UX.
